The Southern Western Australian Region

Discover Bed and Breakfasts is designed for visitors to firstly  find  B&B accommodation, and then to discover  the many wonderful attractions in the southern corner of Western Australia .

This is an area of outstanding beauty  and diversity .

Visitors will travel through towering eucalypt forests, rugged coastlines and beautiful beaches, vineyards, valleys and rivers and  then the  open woodlands, heathlands and farmlands.

This is an ever-changing landscape.

Throughout south Western Australia are dotted the small towns, rich in the history of early maritime explorers and farming pioneers. On this site the  area  is divided into 5 Regions :

Forests & Valleys
South Coast
Woodlands, Wheatbelt & Wildflowers

This is only a guide-line as many  of these Regions overlap with similar attractions and scenery. In-fact vineyards and beaches are found throughout south Western Australia.

Perth and the Hills

Perth - a modern and vibrant city situated on the sweeping Swan river. Known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches and  multicultural foods and entertainment .

Surrounded by The Hills, Perth is the ideal base for exploring  Rottnest Island, Fremantle, Kings Park Botanical gardens,  the Sunset Coast, Avon Valley, Swan Valley and New Norcia .

West Coast

The West Coast is a premier tourist destination known for the Margaret River vineyards, surf beaches and secluded bays, gourmet foods, and walking trails. This picturesque region is a holiday destination for all ages, in all seasons.

Travel via the coast through the regional capital Bunbury, then to historic Busselton where you will also find coastal wetlands; home to thousands of birds. Further south are the sheltered coves of Dunsborough and  the surf-beach in Yallingup. On the way you will discover a region of forests, farms  and  beaches. Continue your southward journey and you will enter the Margaret River region and will end in idyllic Augusta on the beautiful Blackwood River where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian ocean .

South Coast

The South Coast is a region of outstanding beauty where tall Jarrah and Karri forests meet the rugged coastline. Whether you choose the secluded clear-water bays and inlets, hilltop panoramas,  or vineyards and  gourmet food cafes; this region is a total holiday experience.

Travel from the wilderness of Walpole,  through the hills of Denmark,  and to  to the stunning coastal beauty of historic Albany. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Stirling and Porongorup Ranges; a unique natural bush environment where hundreds of plant species are found including wild orchids. Continue through to the botanical wonderland of Fitzgerald River National park, and finally to the award winning pristine beaches of Esperence.

There are few places on earth to equal this endless diversity. During Spring this coastline features a  magnificant wildflower display; while Summer is the perfect time to enjoy sparkling beaches, cycle paths, and outdoor eating.

Forests and Valleys

The Forests and Valleys of South Western Australia are a region of timeless beauty. The cool lush greenery of forest, streams, lakes  and ranges offer a retreat from the main tourist locations.

Discover the tranquility of the Blackwood Valley, the Fergusson Valley, the Donnelly River Basin, and the beautiful town of Pemberton steeped in the history of timber and  farm settlements .

This is a region of music and garden festivals, the tallest trees, Manjimup truffles, crafts, walking trails, wildflowers and vineyards.

Woodlands, Wheatbelt and Wildflowers

The Woodlands, Wheatbelt and Wildflowers region is an area of vast undulating farmlands steeped in the history of early settlers and homesteads, mingling with mallee tree woodlands. During Spring, a drive through this region is a must-do.

Tall cereal crops span the horizon  with a roadside profusion of colourful wildflowers and shrubs; as you drive through the townships of Lake Grace, Ongerup, Katanning, Kojonup, Lake King, Brookton and Hyden. This is the largest cereal growing area in Australia.

Discover Aboriginal and European settlement at Kodja Place in Kojonup, the mallee fowl centre at Ongerup, The Dryandra woodlands, and a birdwatchers paradise.
